1x1 with Simon Ingram 25.03.2010 _ 11.00 am

After reading my abstract Simon suggested to get the video of Joseph Beuys conducting a self-organized performance with a group of people (Fat corner).
Though random in its structure the performance had something quite legible. He also mentioned epistemology and paradime in this context.

Another aspect of chaos and worth researching is “emergence”.
For example the bottom up behaviour in the construction of a termite nest.

One question that Simon came up with:
“ Why do you want to bring chaos into cinema/ stage?”
The answer lies in the projects nature of being experimental and eventually feeding back interesting results.

Another question:
" What is different between Dogma 95 and this approach? Is it inspired by the Danish movement? "
Other than setting up rules in order to experiment and create something new are the similarities rather low.

Simon sees a connection between chaos and democracy.
Darwinism -> Democracy -> Chaos -> Unscripted order

Book recommendation:
De Landa, Manuel, a thousand years of nonlinear history 1997
ISBN: 0942299310
On loan – due on 16/04/10

An interesting view on the loose movie structure is the fact that the brief gives the actors freedom but at the same time the director has a lot of control:
Manipulation in order to get truthful performance.

Overall we both seem to be quite happy with the research topic and the current state of the work.

Outcome:
- Project as an experiment representing the research for chaos
- Manipulation in psychology
- Emergence in context of the research question
- Self-organized behaviour
- Jackson Maclow interview about painting (computers and machines meshed as one) maybe under tate , jan ver woert color
- De Landa’s thousands years of nonlinear history, an new philosophy of society

There was a lady in the room Niamh Peren
